Intheyear1560SirHenrySidneywasmadeLordPresidentofWales,representingtheQueeninWalesandthefouradjatwesternties,asaLordDeputyrepresentedherinIreland.TheofficialresideheLordPresidentwasatLudlowCastle,towhichPhilipSidwithhisfamilywhenachildofsix.InthesameyearhisfatherwasinstalledasaKnightoftheGarter.WheninhistenthyearPhilipSidneywassentfromLudlowtoShrewsburyGrammarSchool,wherehestudiedforthreeorfouryears,andhadamonghisschoolfellowsFulkeGreville,afterwardsLordBrooke,whoremaiiltheendofSidneyslifeoneofhisclosestfriends.Whenhehimselfwasdyinghedirectedthatheshouldbedescribeduponhistombas"FulkeGreville,servanttoQueenElizabeth,sellortoKingJames,andfriendtoSirPhilipSidney."EvenDr.
