MissTemple,throughallges,hadthusfartinuedsuperinteoftheseminary:toherinstruIowedthebestpartofmyacquirements;herfriendshipandsocietyhadbeenmytinualsolace;shehadstoodmeieadofmoverness,and,latterly,panion.Atthisperiodshemarried,removedwithherhusband(aclergyman,anexcellentman,almostworthyofsuchawife)toadistantty,andsequentlywaslosttome.

Butdestiny,intheshapeoftheRev.Mr.Nasmyth,camebetweenmeandMissTemple:Isawheriravelliepintoapost-chaise,shortlyafterthemarriageceremony;Iwatchedthechaisemountthehillanddisappearbeyonditsbrow;airedtomyownroom,andtherespentinsolitudethegreatestpartofthehalf-holidaygrantedinhonouroftheoccasion.
